The facelifted Hyundai hatchback has been officially announced, and with it comes plenty of safety and tech.

  • 2021 Hyundai i30 hatch range gets facelift
  • New safety and tech across the line-up
  • No more diesel and prices increased
  • Priced from $23,420-$36,220 plus on-road costs

The 2021 Hyundai i30 hatchback has been announced, offering buyers increased safety with updated looks.

But Hyundai isn't giving away the new safety tech, with the price of the entry-level i30 (no badge) – previously known as the i30 Go – increasing by $2980.

The Hyundai i30 hatch now starts at $23,420 before on-road costs for the 120kW/203Nm 2.0-litre non-turbo four-cylinder engine with a manual transmission. The automatic adds $2000 to the price.

The mid-range Active and more premium Elite models are only offered with an automatic transmission and the 2.0-litre engine, with pricing from $26,920 plus on-road costs and $30,220 plus on-road costs respectively.

As revealed earlier this week, Hyundai has dropped the diesel engine from the range.

Those wanting a sportier drive can step up to the i30 N Line, which comes with a choice of either six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, mated to a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder offering 150kW and 265Nm.

Alas, those buying an N Line won't be treated to the new exterior lookrevealed in N Line form back in February – because of a sourcing issue. For now, our Korean-made cars do not offer the N Line specification in the new design, but we at least get the refreshed interior.

The i30 N Line starts at $29,420 before on-road costs for the manual, topping out at $36,220 before on-road costs for the i30 N Line Premium with the seven-speed auto.

All variants of the 2021 i30 range are now equipped with Hyundai's SmartSense safety package, which includes collision-avoidance assist, drive attention warning, lane keeping assist, and lane following assist.

All models fitted with an automatic transmission also get smart cruise control with stop and go, designed to help in traffic jams and heavy traffic.

The 2021 Hyundai i30 Elite gets blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision warning, and safe exit warning.

The i30, i30 Active, and i30 N Line are all fitted with an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, as well as Bluetooth for phone calls and music streaming, and a USB input.

Buyers of the i30 Elite and i30 N Line Premium get upgraded to a 10.25-inch infotainment system with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital radio, and split-screen functionality. The system allows the option of the rear camera to remain on when driving.

Standard for the entire i30 line-up is a new 7.0-inch display sits ahead of the driver, providing a digital speedometer, drive mode (for automatics), as well as information from the trip computer and safety alerts.

Also standard on the range is an electronic parking brake, air vents for rear passengers, alloy wheels, and a leather steering wheel and gear knob.

Above the base model, the i30 Active gains 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome exterior highlights, automatic electric windows, and a leather appointed interior.

Both the i30 Elite and i30 N Line enjoy dual zone climate control, auto wipers, wireless charging, keyless entry and start, and an Infinity premium stereo, but the N Line also adds LED headlights and tail lights to add to the sporty exterior.

In addition, the i30 N Line Premium gets front parking sensors, heated and ventilated front seats (with electric driver's), leather interior, and a sunroof.

All 2021 Hyundai i30 hatchback models come with a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, and complimentary roadside assistance for 12 months.
